On the Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves by a Charged Sphere
نویسنده
چکیده
Scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a charged homogeneous spherical particle/body is treated. Theoretical solution represents a generalization of the Mie’s scattering theory for electrically neutral sphere. It is shown that classical and quantum physics approaches may lead to different conclusions, as documented by numerical computations assuming various permeabilities, refractive indices, surface charges, temperatures, and other physical parameters of the spherical particles. Two discrete wavelengths (5μm and 1 mm) of the incident radiation are considered. Optical properties of charged particles composed of absorbing and slightly absorbing materials can essentially differ. Especially, the resonance peaks typically occur when imaginary part of particle refractive index is low. The relative permeability of a material may differ from unity at large wavelengths, e.g., in microwave region. Basically, the relative permeability appears to be less important factor than the surface charge. However, the permeability can influence the scattering and extinction efficiencies, as well as the backscattering features of small particles, under some conditions. A New Theorem Concerning Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves in Multilayered Metamaterial Spherical Structures
The proposed theorem in this paper is indicative of a kind of duality in the propagation of waves in the dual media of and in the spherical structures. Independent of wave frequency, the number of layers, their thickness, and the type of polarization, this theorem holds true in case of any change in any of these conditions. Theorem: Consider a plane wave incident on a multilayered spheric...
متن کاملFocusing of high-energy particles in the electrostatic field of a homogeneously charged sphere and the effective momentum approximation
The impact of the strongly attractive electromagnetic field of heavy nuclei on electrons in quasielastic (e, e) scattering is often accounted for by the effective momentum approximation. This method is a plane wave Born approximation which takes the twofold effect of the attractive nucleus on initial and final state electrons into account, namely the modification of the electron momentum in the...

Discuss the scattering of a plane electromagnetic wave of angular frequency ω that is incident on a perfectly conducting sphere of radius a, which is at rest, when the wavelength obeys λ a (ka 1). Calculate the electromagnetic fields and the Poynting vector everywhere, and interpret these fields in both the near and far zones. Consider incident electromagnetic waves of both linear and circular ...

Replacing the wormhole geometry with an equivalent medium using the perturbation theory of scattering and the Born approximation, we have calculated the differential scattering cross section of electromagnetic waves by a traversable wormhole. It is shown that scattering at long wavelenghts can essentially distinguish wormhole from ordinary scattering object. Some of the zeros of the scatterin...

In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...
